  • wow!! I just commented on other video and seems like I understood this one more. I'm in my second year of interpreting and I really enjoy the program. But what I love most is that I can watch and listen to real people who are not shadows of the deaf world, but they are the deaf world. Thank you so much. I am learning alot of do's and dont's. watch for my intro shortly.

  • Good! I am glad that you understood. :-)

  • what was that u fingerspelled after the teacher quit and take up ....i believe it was at 2:30 something

  • LT Sub (Long term sub teacher)

  • I think it's important to cater to the needs of the student. It's not at all beneficial to say TC is too hard or it's focusing too much on Oral. Some kids thrive in TC environments, some don't.

The key is to find which environment and communication method works best for each child. I have a strong preference for ASL environments but TC environments offer a more rounded experience if the classroom contains kids with differing communication styles. I prefer ASL but I think I use TC more often.

  • Yes and no. But to use total communication is really tough if using ASL. But a few Deaf Students are benefit it if they are hard of hearing. Depending on students. I prefer to use ASL than TC. Thanks for making comment here.

  • I am hearing, do not know ASL yet, and am trying to learn it as quickly as possible because I want to be a Deaf Educator. When I typed in Deaf Education on Youtube, it startled me to see that there are strong opinions on problems with it. What are the problems?

  • I don't know sign language and I'm hearing impaired. Hope to see a ink to a transcript. Not every hearing impaired person knows or uses sign language, asl.

  • I undy you but any age ASLers should take in YOGA things, that helps me into higher esteem and relax talking that is KEYS ~ I can talk more but I am in humble personal ~ It is not religion...

  • oh ok thank you so much...i will let my colleague know

  • I agree that TC at a young age is too hard. Children need a strong grasp of ONE language before trying to learn a second one. To give deaf children, often with hearing parents and weak language skills, a watered-down version of signing combined with English is simply chaos.

Help the child learn and develop their first language first - and whether or not the hearing world likes it that is ASL. Only when ASL is solid can you effectively use it to teach English as a 2nd language.
