This show has one of the best examples of the fourth wall being broken. Granted its not quite as blatant as those seen in Warner Bros and Cartoon Network studios (Chowder) but, its still brilliant in its own way.

The Terrytoons were the least creative if not the worst in the Golden Age of Cartoons. Because Paul Terry wanted as little creativity done in his cartoons as possible in order to save money. Paul Terry once said: "If Walt Disney was the Tiffany's of animation then I'm Woolworths."

The least you could say is that Paul Terry was being honest about why he could not be very creative. Granted Terrytoons was the slow to adopt to adapt new technologies and it had the lowest budgets for its productions. Paul Terry was proud enough to produce and show a cartoon regardless of quality. You can at least admit his work was good enough to be remembered regardless of how generic it was. :D

Oh don't get me wrong Link101. I've got nothing against Paul Terry and his Terrytoons. I like Heckle & Jeckle and Mighty Mouse and their definitely memorable cartoon characters. But the fact remains that Terry was not very interested in innovation or new ideas for his cartoons. Whenever a member of his staff came up to Terry with a new idea for a cartoon he politely turned it down. There were exceptions of course as this HECKLE & JECKLE cartoon illustrates.

Are you aware that Paul Terry initally opposed making the transition from black and white to color for his cartoons in the late 30s but had to due to neccessity? Paul Terry's insistance on making his cartoons as cheap as possible with as little creativity as possible no doubt inspired Hanna-Barbera when they made their cartoons for television with cheap limited animation. Paul Terry was perhaps the only major animator in America who treated cartoons as a business rather than an art form.

Great change of pace with the animation at 3:33, by Jim Tyer.

This is one of the best Terrytoons- much more imagination than most. Still, it has their usual faults- great character design but simplistic animation- and the timing is slack, there's a strong reliance on the music score to keep things moving forward. It's a LOT better than the average Mighty Mouse cartoon.
