Actually, toe kicks were used and taught back then for Karatekas, but are now considered forbidden because of the fact which you have just explained. It is also very difficult and painful when done properly and takes a long time to train the toe kick. It is considered very dangerous when done to a person, which is why nowadays shin kicks are more common than the toe kick, especially in sports Karate.
Is it correct that Uechi Ryu has the least amount of Kata's compared to all the other Karate styles ?
