Skaife was the master of the H pattern gearbox in v8 supercars the way he could come off Conrod straight at Bathurst 3oo km/h into the braking area on the limiter then just as casual as ya like go from 6th to 2nd gear i never seen any one else do better smoooooooooooooooooth

Nice Pumas

@vlfreak Not when this video was made. All the cars had an H-Pattern gearbox at this time.

@vlfreak Cuts off the injectors rather than ignition.

@vlfreak why this type of stuff isn't in street cars this would be cool

@vlfreak the older cars had a H box, you can still flat shift as you pull the stick back so from 1st to second and 3rd to 4th, 5th to 6th when he goes accross the box he will use the clutch.
Yeah, they still had it but only on the later cars. Can shift on the limiter if you time it right and/or use enough force. Dunno about you guys but I miss the old H pattern box in racing these days :(

How is he upshifting without putting the clutch in? Its not SMG so he must blip the throttle and slam it in gear. I used to do that on my bike when dragging

v8sc have auto shift cut on the gear stick, so as you pull a gear it cuts the ign. for a poofteenth of a second to allow the shift thru, without lifting.. neat eh :) a lot of them used to just pull a gear as it hit the rev limiter too

is it normal for racr car driver to clutch shift without releasing the gas?

yeh it is in the v8sc at least.. often shifting on the rev limiter (7500) and in recent years they have devised a shift rpm-cut attached to the gear stick.. hence, hold foot flat, grab stick and shift..
theyve gone to sequential shifters now, but the same system is still in use for the shift-cut
