If I recall correctly, you can hotkey about half a dozen skills. Check the keyboard controls menu.

isnt 24 pretty high lvl in act 2? im normally around lvl 28 or so in act 5, so that sounds pretty high. and also, is this just showing off a bit or what? I see you can do it without a merc and all, but why? why not have a merc when you can and have it even more easy? its like driving a car with one eye closed, just because you can

No it's not high at all. If you play the game normally as a single player and loot everywhere, it's perfectly normal. And doing this part without a merc is not about showing off but rather showing that it can be done without a merc for those who don't like playing with a merc. I usually kill my merc off right away as soon as it gets granted to me.
