In 1982 there weren't that many video cameras on the market for the amateur photographer and
as a result there weren't that many railfan video's of that era unless you count 8 and 16mm film.
Sit back and enjoy this video from February 1982.

  • As a Kid (Hmmm right around this time exactly, my stepdad had the shop next to the FP&L facility close to the crossing (which was made into an overpass because they would block the 46 crossing (which dave i believe was 4 lane just before the bridge was built but i was only 11 when this was made) the crossing would be blocked for hours and there was a path behind the shop at the north end of rands yard which i sat on an old telephone pole and would watch the old auto trains and scl frieghts pass

  • @KJ4AQT ..Thanks for the roster info and additional details Jason.

  • WOW I turned exactly 1 year old on this exact day :)

  • Very Cool video! I was born 2 days after this video was shot! LOL. That's cool that the road channell has never changed over the years I listen to 160.590 all the time when I railfan the CSX A-line in North Carolina. Thanks for a nice look into the past!

  • awesome. Grew up in Raleigh and Aberdeen, North Carolina. Spent the early 80's watching those black and yellow beauties. Then came CSX... ah well. Can't win 'em all huh? Great video. Brings back memories. My grandma used to take me down to Hamlet back then too. What a great spot to see SCL, Family Lines and Seaboard System power. Good stuff.

  • The Roster is SCL-1805 A U36B Built a month before i was born in June of 1971, and SCL-340 A Baby Boat U-18B Built in 1973

and the last one appears to be U-18B 365 Built in 1964 but no photos exist

  • now ken knows why i liked SCL Uboats for my A Line route for msts
