These things were monstrosities when they built them, hated straight away, typically bad modern design and architecture. The houses that were there before were better.

I used to drink in the Grey parrott round there after going to Man United. I saw someone setting fireworks off in their front room. They have created a new slum in about 20 year. Houses put up in ten minutes.

@gotobedandtickler im 14 so only know of hulme as it is now, its a shame but i s'pose they thought they were doing the right thing, quite a shame really, manchester could of been so much better.
the fact that the people got only £80 is appalling!

It took longer to demolish than it did to build them.
The 4 crecents were put up within 4 months, including roads etc.
I watched the old Hulme torn down by demolition and the new Hulme being built, that is if you call it that, it was built like a deck of cards.
Towards the end it ended up being a shit hole for scum, all the previous tennants left because of the conditions. People who lived in Hulme and Moss Side had their houses possessed by compulsory purchase order.
They got £80.00
