Boer War battle re-enactment at the English Heritage Festival of History, Kelmarsh (UK) July 2008. Filmed on request by a fellow re-enactor at no notice - I took part in the 'battle' - using a hand-held camcorder. Heavily edited to eliminate 'tennis match' swings, match the music and still fit within 10 minutes! This is my first attempt of this kind. I am a co-founder of the Heilbron Commando mentioned in the end credits. Enjoy!

  • Wonderful footage, Uncle! The tent fire looks so realistic!!! :)))

  • Yes, you could smell the smoke and feel the heat: wonderful what SFX can do these days ;-)

  • Excellent editing, scoring and bone breaking! I can't wait to be a Boer!

  • Thanks Ron!

  • Can you tell me where you got your foreign service helmets and covers?

I have a large collection of good "Cork" repro

helmets and one original 1902 dated helmet.

I am always on the look out for more, especially the covers, havelock and spine pads.

    Good video.

  • Thanks Mikey, we got the helmets (repro) from various sources. I still have a couple of Vietnamese repro's in stock. If you want to sell any, best thing would be to write to the Boerwar Forum on Yahoo.

  • Thanks! I expect you guys will be doing things on a grand scale before long and we look forward to a joint event at some point in the future.

  • Excellent film, gentlemen. My best wishes for a speedy recovery to the unfortunate Lancer. Boer War is tiny but growing here in the US. We've a way to go before we reach your level, but we try. Always good to see more Victorians! Keep up the good work!

  • I think we all wish Phil a speedy recovery after that spectacular fall!

  • From the unfortunate lancer: Makes my leg twitch watching that. It just shows what good shots the Boers were ! Perhaps one of my better horse falls. Phil.
