Well, I'm not 100% sure and knowing about the history of Thailand, Burma, Cambodia and the other south-east asian lands.
However I know some examples:
Italaind, spanish, french and other european fencing schools are pretty similar. Plus swiss and german grappling are also alike. So I guess it's normal, that Khmer MA and Muay Thai are much alike since they are neighbours.
But I don't think it has something to do with copying the MA in an evil way(Like many say from both sides)
