1. Thomas Szazs, a psychologist or psychiatrist, wrote a book "The Myth of Mental Illness".
2. Wm. Glasser in his book "Reality Therapy" gives details of THREE separate institutions in which schizophrenics were cured without drugs, by simply
training them to take responsibility for their actions. The success rates were from 80-100%.
3. Jay Adams, a Christian counsellor in America, has written some 40 books on counselling. He also contends that "mental illnesses" do not exist. I doubt if these books have ever been mentioned in your training.
4. Eysenk researched the success rate of counselling.
Psychoanalysis = 44%
Psychotherapy = 64%
This sounds reasonable until he quotes NO treatment whatsoever = 72%. So much for secular treatments!
5. I have co-authored a book entitled "Breakdowns are good for you". My co-author is a retired Anglican Minister. He qualified as a doctor and spent three years working in psychiatric hospitals and then went into the
ministry. He realised that those who claimed that they were mentally ill were simply sinners. You might like to read some of the comments from people that I have helped with counselling or they have read our book. Click on http;//www.mbowden.info/comments.htm
All I know for sure is that God can miraculously heal things that a lot of people think are incurable and anyone who doesn't think so hasn't experienced it or known anyone who has experienced it. I have personal knowledge of that as I have witnessed it for myself. Matthew 19:26 "Jesus looked at them and said, 'With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.'"

Nothing to see here, move along. Jay Adams, Nouthetic counseling, and true Christian counselors have been at war for years. Christian counselors have been more fair to Jay Adams and his insights than Adams and his ilk have EVER been to those who might wish to come along side him. Adams is a 'pick up my marbles and go home' whiner when anyone disagrees with him. To all Nouthetic counselors, it's time to give up the fight-we need you too much.

Religion causes Schizophrenia. Ask all the psychotic Jehovah's Witnesses. The brain can only take so much of the shaming / guilt trip.

What a load.

Concluded then. Your method of counselling is not in the Bible. Christians would do well to note that before listening to your erroneous teaching.

@chava2uk I ask where you find in the Bible drugging for selfish behaviour - as a number of depressants have admitted. I have already pointed out that "mental illness" is determined by psychiatrist sitting round a table and voting - no science whatsoever. Paul underwent terrible experiences yet was never depressed but "Rejoice". MB

Bab5Blake7 you have hit tne nail on the head! To be ill is not sin. these people fail to underatand that. if they don't understand the illness, it is sin to them. They have no idea what they are talking about.

Ovbviously, you've never been nouthetically confronted by a biblical counselor. It's like being tortured. I know, I've been nouthetically confronted for the "sin" of OCD.

You should at least have been willing to come to some understanding about what each of us meant by our use of terminology, without that I was wasting my time trying to explain my views.
Secondly, the methods you use, despite your claims are unbiblical. Where do you find this type of counselling in the Bible?

Of course I rejected unsubstantiated claims. there was no proper study ever done. I did not switch as you suggest. Yu do not accept the definition of schizophrenia other people use. That is dishonest. If you are not meaning what the psychiatrists mean when they use the term, you will mislead very well meaning people and put vulnerable people in danger.
