I AGREE that military service should be a requirement for those who serve the United States of America in elected political offices all the way up to the presidency.

As a Viet Nam Vet it is my opinion every politician be a veteran & every citizen as well should serve this Nation. Perhaps then discipline, respect for others & rule of law will return to our communities & informed citizens that march to the polls & cast their votes will un derstand who & what they are actually voting FOR~!.

@mickjagger64 Kris was asking our leaders to have the balls to back down from these fights that no one truly wins, and everybody loses, NOT to force every American into armed service, as is the case in so called "Democratic" nations Switzerland and South Korea.

@MannyfromCanada Compulsory service for those with the power to send us to war. Our political scientists have done studies on military service in positions of leadership, and they are less likely to vote for war, because they know all that war entails. Colin Powell was (at first) against military intervention in Iraq. All our military brass are descendants of Vietnam, and they know devastation, our Yale graduate presidents do not.

@MannyfromCanada Congrats Swiss born. You have to serve in the military. Law. But why???? You have never fought for anything at all. Have never backed a cause. Wow, a deferral tax, I don' t serve so I pay a tax. The only good thing that has ever come out of Switzerland has been a watch. And I see by your name, you moved to Canada. LOL Lateral move at best. @CowboyJoeH1 Soooo...you would disqualify Franklin Delano Roosevelt? If you want a democracy, with a volunteer military, then compulsory military service does not work. Furthermore you interfere with religious freedom, as there are religious groups, including Christian denominations, that forbid their members from participating in military service. I am Swiss by birth, where every adult serves in the military,however there are non military alternative national services, including a deferral tax.
