@Lester1Beck for the time (1955) Pat was in the transition period between the Big Band and Crooners of the 40sand early 50s, so his music was a combination of those sounds as well as the R&R that began to develop in the early 50s. Many others were also in that transition. I still enjoy the 40s, 50s and 60s music and as a teen I was heard as much as I was seen. Music variety was the sound of the 50s and we loved it then and still love it today.

Also in 1955 the song was covered by The Crew Cuts and Frank Sinatra. Both of these are good, but don't compare to The Charms version. I can enjoy all four versions so do not ask me to apologize for posting the Pat Boone recording.

@Quixote010 the term is Covered not stolen. I agree The Charms version is the better one of the two, and I credited Otis Williams and The Charms,
Many of the recordings by black artists in the forties and fifties were better than the white covers, but because of the times they did not get the national radio play they deserved. Otis Williams and Henry Stone did a great job on the writing and were paid royalties by the producers of Boone's recording. It was paid for not stolen.
only pat can give credibility to this as a dancing song---and wasn't that what it was all about in the 50's? dance with your girl! I haven't heard one original (black or any color) that wasn't better covered by a white(?) artist----I remember "Hearts of Stone" as a so-called "cover" and when I listened to the original I thought it was terrible.

@MrGerry298 I must disagree that all "White" covers were better than the original. There are some covers (Black, White or whatever) that are more to my taste than some originals, but for the most part the original artists rendition is best. Your comment could be construed as racist by some.

@MrGerry298 I will agree "The Charms" 1955 version of "Made of Stone" is better than the 1954 original by "The Jewels". Red Foley's 1954 rendition was also pretty good. "The Fontane Sisters" was the best seller and went to number one on the Billboard charts in 1955. Which one was "best" can only be determined by a persons musical taste.
