Trombone player, José Davila brought his improvisational genius to congahead.com that reflected the broad range of work he does. Most known to congahead.com as a salsa musician performing on trombone, he also does work in Broadway shows, New Orleans music and avant garde music of people like Henry Threadgil. He is also proficient on tuba.

  • Nice playing. I just had to turn my head while listening because that embouchure is absolutely ugly.

  • Wow, I've known Jose for 30 yrs, you guys should hear him play the tuba!!! He's a humble person, awesome player, and an even even better friend.. In highschool football games I'd make up tunes & by beat #2 Jose was in synch ( it was wild )...

  • @r473z0r The trick to creating the dirty sound like you're still doing it on purpose. Personally I thought some of his attacks were flat out missed which could have been because he was improvising or could have been the wonky embouchure. His feel was awesome though.

  • what trombone is that it looks like a king of some sort

  • @davtpt Totally agree - his tuba playing is unreal! Great guy, glad to have had the pleasure of playing w/him back in the day...

  • @BonefidePsychonaut Have you considered that maybe the "cats" aren't jsut "getting away with it", and that the dirty sound is actually part of the the musical style? And a lot of the "wet toungue sound" is the y'know, plunger mute? His playing creates an amazing, sad then happy, jazz/salsa sound, which sounds awesome given the fact that this is ALL improv

  • @megagodzilla25 Yes that actually is the end of a plunger with no handle. All of us jazz brass guys do it, after the toilet pipes are cleared of course.

  • Lol don't be hating he is my music teacher you all shit heads

  • @deathbytrombone dont hate cause i got the top comment. you wouldnt be able to say something about my playing anyways cause youve never seen me play, you fake musician. you mad bitch?

  • @BigMacWitCheez Whatever man hes still better than you or I could hope to be.

  • eso es de un amigo para el baño

  • @MegaGodzilla25 thats cuz it IS
