  • It looks pretty but the glide phase is too long. Glide = decelerate so you have to work harder to get back to your cruise speed. It seems this is easier on your energy reserves when it fact it is the opposite. If you work on your timing you can reduce the glide and maintain your speed with less energy consumed. Imagine paddling a surfboard, pull then pause. You will slow down no doubt about it and then you have to pull hard to get back the speed. Reduce glide increase speed conserve energy.

  • @changyUK the swimmer is swimming to the speed of the EP. GLIDING is not in my terminolgy. If the speed of the pool had gone up then the timing would have shifted accordingly. This is one of the pro/con of the endless pool concept. This was a demonstration of the catch position not a video on timing. Kayaking suits some, FQ suits others depending on leg kick strength, artificial buoyancy from wetsuits etc I am not debating which is better as that is highly individual

  • @swimfortri Please accept my apologies, my comments were for another video. I wrote them on Word to allow a character count and when I came back to YouTube I seem to have pasted into the wrong one. I realised this when I read your reply and reviewed the video to assess the stroke. This swimmer has a great finish to his stroke, it is rare indeed to see the hand turn parallel to the hip/thigh as it exits. Many try to hold pressure on the water at that point which is counter productive.

  • @changyUK wow i find that a very nice advice, but i was wondering about that, i was thinking, what if i do the less amount of strokes, would that be more efficient?, by example and just saying, if in 50m i do 25 stroke could i get down to 20 and would that be better?, but doing that will require, to make the stroke as long as possible, and waiting to get all the propulsion from it, you now like not starting one stroke until the other one gave all it can, that involve like a pause, is that fine?

  • great vid. I struggle sometimes with the extreme vertical forearm because it seems to require a lot more strength and flexibility in the shoulders. An old shoulder injury seems to creep back in when engaging the shoulders so far forward.
