Just a quick vid of me making a pottery storage jar / pot or a coffee / tea storer on the wheel.
It helps when the clay is quite soft for this so that you can make the ridge for the lid to sit in easily.
The lid is a really simple one where you just press down and inwards on the clay and up pops the knob.

  • Thank you for sharing. I saw another one of your videos and thought I would try & make my lids the same way ..... perfect fit everytime !!! Much, much easier and faster than trying to attach a knob later. I used to throw my lids upside down then attach a handle later .... no longer !!!

THANKS !!!! Happy potting ... CHEERS from Canada !!!!

  • @potterymomma Glad to be of help.

    Cheers,Dan

  • Why not form the gallery for the lid to sit in after you add shape to the pot?

  • @SpifySavannah Hi,the thing is if you make the pot and then try to form the gallery then It's usually too thin and it'll collapse,so in my experience its better to form it at an early stage.

    Cheers,Dan

  • Excellent videos you post up, very informative and helpful, thanks. I want to buy some batts, as they would be very handy. What would I be looking for? Are they metal or plastic? I mean do they stick to the wheel by magnetism or by moistening the wheel?

  • I saw you make your lids in another of your videos & thought I'd give it a try. WOW !!! Much, much easier, faster & simplified than trying to attach a knob later ... and my lids have been a "perfect" fit everytime....I used to throw my lids upside down .... not anymore !!!

THANKS for sharing !!!! Happy potting from Canada !!! Cheers !!!

  • Thank you for the detail on the lid. Will try forming the knob this way. Much more efficient than attaching later.

  • I giggled a little when the lid knob came up. Does that make me a bad person? xD
