On July 23 and 24, 2011 I had the opportunity to ride and chase the excursion train over the "La Veta Pass Route" operated by the Rio Grande Scenic Railroad.
In "Over La Veta Pass by train, Part 1" we followed the train over the 2.5% grade from Alamosa, CO to La Veta, CO. Now in Part 2 we make the return over the 3% westbound grade (I think I have these facts right; if not, I'm sure someone will correct me). The departure from La Veta was under a thundering sky, but we quickly left the storm behind. Along the way we enjoy lots of stack talk, see some bears, learn about the emergency anchor, and witness some fiddling around in the club car.
amazing work! 5 stars!

You've got more great scenes here! Really like the scenes of the town-I've never been that far west! And I've ridden a couple trains that have had live entertainment!

I have never heard of a emergency anchor before, but that look more like a hand brake to me...
