The KTLA morning show did a segment with Charles Phoenix at my Grandfather's restaurant in Chinatown. Charles was promoting his Disneyland tour of Los Angeles The restaurant closed a long time ago and it is now a gift shop called Realm.
Wow, how long has it been since the close? My family would buy dim sum from Hong Kong Low up till the day of its closure. I always found it neat that food reviewer Jonathan Gold of L.A. Weekly favored it as well. I miss the prices, the taste, the busy atmosphere (but parking still sucks to this day). My mom used to work as a hostess in the main restaurant, but when I ask her about the "punk scene", she has no idea what I'm talking about.
