They took a problem, how to pay for the upkeep of prisoners, and solved it. They made the prisoners WORK for their own food, water, and shelter by pitting them against each other in gladiator fights. That's brilliant! I propose we enforce a similar kind of system with today's prisons. It would be similar to the UFC except prisoners can use shanks and clubs and there would be the occasional fight to the death.

I just wanna say this: for those of you saying it's a good thing rome and it's language is gone think again. rome was one of the greatest empior's. romans only did games on occasion, also the languge is not dead. in fact a country called vatican city still speaks latin. I dunno. For those arguing so strongly about having prisoners fight to the death, as well as the death penalty, consider the other currently used option. Spent thousands of dollars to keep a serial killer fed, cared for, and sheltered. That's thousands that the taxpayers are paying to care for people who questionably deserve life.
