On 30/11/08, the BBC aired the first of four episodes of Christmas Voices on BBC1 with a 6 minute feature about Sikhism. The mini film featured interviews with the Makan (pronounced 'Maakan') family from Leicester and Dr. Indarjit Singh OBE with explanations about the significance of Guru Nanak Dev ji's Gurpurab (birthday celebrations), Bandhi Chhorh, Diwali, the Dastaar Bandhan (turban tying) ceremony, the Sikh belief of the oneness and equality of all humankind and of course the Sikh attitude to Christmas.

  • Do Sikhs believe in Jesus pbuh because your celebrating Christmas.

  • Dear @YusufG121, thanks for your question. Not sure what you mean by 'believe in' but I would suggest you watch the video and listen to the message in it to capture the essence of how the Sikh religion respects the founders of other religions as enlightened human beings. Additionally, the openness and universality of the Sikh ideology means that Sikhs are happy to learn about and join in with the general cultural festivities and traditions of the wider community. All the best.

  • @ssmakan I agree.

  • Even Sikhs are now pronouncing their religion "seek"? How very interesting how consensus changes tradition.

  • @oooKH4L15T4N1ooo Practicality. Obviously he does not feel that. Guru Maharaaj is above everyone else. What was the need to say this? Do you really think an educated man like Dr Inderjit Singh Ji would consider himself to have a higher status than Guru Ji?

This video was meant to be for people to learn and to be educated, but the more we complain about it, the less it becomes an educational video.

  • next to Maharaaj's thabiya aswell. Maybe he feels that he is more supreme and has a higher status than Guru Maharaaj

  • why is this dr.sitting on chair in the sikh temple?
