A behind-the-scenes look at a photoshoot with model Amieboo, filmed & narrated by her friend and also amazing model Faye.

Shot on location at Castle Zombie, the video is accompanied by the resulting photos.

I put this video together as it shows you what it's like shooting with a great model, and that not every photo taken is perfect (though the hit rate with Amieboo is very high compared with other models).

She's ready with a new pose within 2 seconds; takes direction brilliantly, as well as coming up with her own poses - which are sufficiently varied, but not wildly different from the previous pose - and models from head to toe at all times.

The lighting setup is very simple - a bare Canon Speedlite 430EX about 2 metres above the floor, central to the model. When in a studio, I normally shoot with a beauty dish, 2m octabox, or ring flash.

This is just one of many sets we shot on the day, and I ended up only selecting 2 photos from the 150 taken in this 8 minute set.

The full results from the day's shoot with Amieboo and Faye can be seen at:

  • Good beginner session, i think you need to spend a little more attention on the lighting as its very unflattering. Video seems to display your subject better than the photos? What type of lighting are you using?

  • @skalmusphoto Thanks for your comment - this is by no means meant to be a tutorial, more a fun video taken while doing a fun shoot. When I shoot in a studio or with natural light on location, the results are far better. A bare speedlite is sometimes far from flattering, but it does mimic sunlight, and some of the other shots in the linked album are striking.

  • Nice video i was wondering if you can shoot these same shoots with nikon sb 600 SPEEDLIGHTS

  • I can't seem to find a bad photo

  • Honestly i think the hard light works. Yeah it's not "flattering" or whatever but it works for the subject and the overall theme. Love the shoot and the pictures Claude. Still pretty amazed that you only used 1 speedlite.
