I like Xmind, but I really need to export to Word or pdf to make it useful. Unfortunately, you need to pay $49 a year, every year, just to get these export features in the Pro version. Since there's nothing else of interest to me in the Pro version, the lack of a mid-range pricing plan makes it impossible to really embrace this program.

Hi - all you need to do is to change the export name (say you choose the exportr to html) from html to '.doc' or '.pdf' and Xmind will export the mind map to Word or PDF (haven't tried PDF but it definately exports to Word. I hope this helps.

Will it export to Word as RTF? It would be great if it would automatically outline.

: when you've completed your mind map, go to File Export and select the HTML option. Then click the Next button. When you've chosen the file location, ie the place you want to save it to....change the extension at the end from '.html' to ' .doc' the Word extension - or rtf. Then when you Next/Finish your mind map will convert to a Word document.

    - Unfortunately, the text in the pdf gets distorted.

    - I've tried this workaround (and thanks for the suggestion), but the text in the pdf is always distorted.

why don't you use open source export to word and then make a PDF from the word document? I think that would work quiet easily. Just a suggestion. thank you

    - Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, I tried it, but no pdf reader will read the resulting file. Acrobat says it's a corrupted file, or not a pdf.

Thanks for so much help. I've managed to find the numbers by selecting a main topic, then left clicking to show the context menu, which contains the properties option. This version of the properties box contains the numbers, but when I either put in a number, or click the tiered number button, the outline, in txt or doc, has no numbers in it and is just a list. I'm dumb where technology is concerned! A video would help ;)

no. I mean the real numbers added in the properties view. :) Please note that this number section will be visible when you select the Main Topic or Subtopic.

Do you mean the marker style numbers? The only other numbers I can see in the property view relate to the font size.
