Many thanks for yet another great contribution, coloraturafan! I like the interpolated end note by Devia (and you have educated me on the amazingness of Devia since seeing your posts), but I find that here she does too many changes in the beginning, modifying the melody almost beyond recognition. Variation is great in any Rossini aria, but I still feel one needs to hear the essence of what the composer wrote to more further appreciate a variation upon it. Great moments from all the artists!

A rather late filmed performance of my number 1 Donna, Caballe. Her 1970 recording is my favourite performance of this role that suits her wonderfully. The perfect Rossini soprano Devia dazzles with her fantastic florid singing in this finale but overall this role was not her best Rossini role, a bit too low for her. The others put me to sleep.

@JuillHope17 I wouldn't go so far as to call them all horrible (although Caballe was a disappointment). Of course, it is your opinion, but I actually find Gasdia and Anderson in particular anything BUT horrible. The variations for both of them are quite interesting.

@sediziosevoci I believe Horne did sing the entire role, and there is a recording of a live performance c. 1980 on CD. I don't recall further details, but it's probably on the Internet. Insofar as Caballe's singing of Rossini is concerned, I most certainly believe she does it justice. Caballe is a mistress of bel canto and has made several admirable recordings of Rossini works. Her recording of the Willow Song from the "other" Otello (by Rossini) is beautiful and she is quite good in Semiramide.
