The secondary drain is jetted out on every flush with a 300ml rinse and around 150ml of water remains in the secondary trap. Given the limited exposure to evaporation due to the small surface area of the secondary trap you would likely have the main trapway go dry long before evaporation would open the secondary drain.

Most catastrophic overflows are not caused at the time of the flush (although some people still flush over and over hoping the clog clears!) but instead come from a clog combined with a leaky flapper valve or chain hanging up causing the water to gradually overflow...and KEEP overflowing!

Assuming the toilet rarely clogs, what happens when the secondary trap dries out? This will allow sewer gas into the room. Is there some leakage into the overflow to ensure that water remains in the trap?

We have used these toilets for over a year in our hotel, not one overflow!!!
