This is part one of my father's wartime recollections of some of the fiercest fighting of the Second World War.
My Dad served with the 28th Division "Bloody Bucket" in Europe through December 1944.
He received his "Million Dollar Wound" in the Hurtgen and endured one year in recovery from his injuries.
This is my tribute to my Dad's service, patriotism and sacrifice - and ALL who served with honor, and is an inspiration to us all.

My Dad tells me the same thing. The only reason the Americans won the war is because we had what amounted to an unlimited amount of equipment and fuel. Listen to my Dad's interview - he really respected the German fighting soldier as a true soldier. Of course, the conscripted troops didn't meet this tough criteria but you can't expect a conscript to have the same level of fight in his heart.
Also we won the war becasue of the Soviets...the Germans took a major loss at Stalin Grad and battle for Moscow. By the time we entered the Germans were stretched thin. Your farther is right tho. He is a real hero :) As my Russian family at the battles on the Eastern front!
Anthony Evans writes: 'The German soldier was very professional and well trained, aggressive in attack and stubborn in defence. He was always adaptable, particularly in the later years when shortages of equipment were being felt'. However, their integrity was compromised by war crimes
