Can you believe this? At last, a new home made video!

Okay folks, so this is a rather special one, as it's in fact a "farewell" to my old student's harp, the Melusine model from Camac... She with whom everything began -that is to say the friend I learnt all with... A relationship which lasted 5 years. The fact is that I now need a smaller and more elaborated Celtic harp, all the more as my old friend totally ruins my shoulder and is rather heavy to carry while touring.
In a few days I will have to wave her goodbye as I'll welcome a new model. So here is a little tribute I made, before I get to never see her again...

I learnt these two other Greek tunes thanks again to wonderful artist and teacher Elisa Vellia, during her summer harp workshops in Brittany.
The first song, O Mikros Alitis (a farewell dance), comes from Loudovikos Ton Anogion and was rearranged by Elisa -you can hear it on her first solo album, "Voleur de Secrets". As I think they're enough in conveying the whole atmosphere -and that this does NOT belong to my type of voice- I'm only singing the first two lines of the song:

"Each day passing by,
Each night that goes away,
Is like an exhausted sun,
Like an ageing star."

The second tune is a traditional Greek song, which Elisa rearranged herself, "I Trata Mas" (The fishing boat). The most well-known interpretations of this song are from Katerina Giannikou and Vaggelis Konitopoulos.

I hope you won't mind too much the little flaws I made AND the bad sound quality of my camera...
Enjoy! :)

  • Absolutely beautiful. I'm glad you're still posting videos. Keep playing. And I hope your new harp will be just as beautiful.

  • Many great thanks to all of you for your heart-warming comments and encouragements! :)

I feel honoured that you appreciate this video as my camera unfortunately gives back a terrible, distorted sound... And yes, it is sad that I have to leave my harp since I can't afford buying a new one without selling the former (and don't have enough room).

As CurzonRoad said, every dark cloud has its silver lining, I know I've made the right choice.

  • Good job, kiddo! When are you getting a Lyon & Healy?

I don't mind the sound quality, but your music really deserves better, you know. Until you get a better setup, I suggest moving the camera farther away from you so the microphone doesn't distort, while adjusting the zoom to a close-up. That way, it's the same view as in this video, but less jangly audio.

  • Sorry... I trata mas I kourelou is amazing... Such a moving song if you understand the words and you play it beautifully.... Efharisto paro paro poli gia adding Afto clip.... Eisai teleia! Kisses from greece

  • Hi!!! nice performance....

I am thinking about buying a harp! could you plz tell me where I could find on the internet? thanx for the attention

  • This is the only video on Youtube that has to do with Katerina Giannikou. Why? I was looking for a song named Naziares Kouklitses. I don't speak greek. Can someone translate that for me? This video is so sad. I don't like saying farewell/goodbye. :/

  • It's beautiful! I bought Elisa's CD when I was in bretagne two years ago or so, but I didn't know she taught too. Did you learn it by hearing during the workshops or is there sheet music available somewhere? I wish I could go to one of her workshops, but I don't think she'll come to the Netherlands soon, if ever.

  • This is amaZing!!! I trata mas I kourelou ei a
