KELLER: welcome back, we're talking with setti warren, the mayor of newton who is challenging scott brown for the u.s. senate. on your website,y say quote we need to make some structural changes to social security to keep the program solven't, and you propose raising the social security tax, again quoting, so the mega rich pay their fair share. right now we pay the 6.2% social security tax, only on the first $106,800 of income. are you saying somebody who earns more than that is mega rich?

WARREN: same saying that we should make sure that people are paying their fair share into the system in order to keep it solven't. multimillionaires should be held to the same accountability in paying their fair share in social security as people that are making less than 106,000.

KELLER: what about someone earning $107,000, they're not a multimillionaire.

WARREN: that's true, but we all need to pay into that system.

KELLER: you want to pay their taxes.

WARREN: we need to make sure people pay into that to make sure it's solven't. i think in order to keep the system solven't, if you have people pay their fair share over that amount, we can keep it going forward and protect people.

KELLER: country is that make more sense to take some woman who is making $110,000 and trying to support a family of eight, and that doesn't go very far they're in massachusetts. why should they be in the same boat with someone who really is mega rich? and, by the way, at what point, at what income previously do you start thinking someone is rich?

WARREN: well, again, it's about people paying their fair share. one of the things i've been talking about in this campaign, and we talk about investment in job creation, bringing down our deficit, making government more efficient. we can't continue to extend tax cuts then bush tax cuts for the top 2% wage earners in this country. we have to make sure that our tax code is reformed so its fair, and we make sure that these tax loopholes that are not really making small businesses more competitive, businesses more competitive, and make sure it's an even playing field. we can actually reduce the corporate tax rate if we actually take these loopholes out. the subcy disfor oil companies. we need to encourage businesses to employ people here in america, and in the state of massachusetts in particular.

KELLER: but that north of eight making 110,000, her taxes are going fun you have your way, right?

WARREN: if i have my way, the top 2% of americans will not continue to get the bush tax cut us they have, so we can make investment in connection job creation, bio medical, biotech. we can take a seer ice look at high speed rail in this state, connect people and universities and markets and drive the economy the way it should, and should also make sure we have some free trade teals that are fair trade deals, so that we can compete with india and china, bring good jobs back to the united states. those are things i wants to work on.
