The reason Whit's voice seems lighter is because after the bodyguard era, her voice was becoming more and more strained, appearing to be lighter. Same with later years, but with those later years, her use of "Melisma" was becoming more difficult, proven as she talk sung instead, and her voice was becoming more and more hoarse. So 80's (High, clear, light, thin voice), early 90s (High and light with good timbre, then deeper with greater timbre, but great range), and later 90s (thinner timbre)
@thesinger yes they are best friends. They learned from each other. The "within" you mention is fine but Cece's does the same note in "give in" and it is longer. Truth is, during those days Cece never loses her voice, she doesn't now. WH was losing it, and i remember on tv when she didn't have the voice to sing this song and cece backed off and didn't embarrass her friend. What I can say about WH is that she had the whole package. Cece can sing WH songs, same quality but she isnt mainstream
@kmaur21 clearer than who? higher than who? Whitney was never higher nor clearer than Cece. Cece is always holding back for her friend, that is her being humble. Cece can sustain notes, Live whitney does a talking phrase. Listen Cece is holding longer and higher. Don't get me wrong she is WH's light voice is more sensual and it is beautiful. Cece's more effortless and clear even today. Full voice whitney is wider that i like better. WH has more presence but the voice is not superior it is equal
Is this from 1997, i f so could someone post the recording of her and CeCe singing In return which both of them kill though the 1990 version is just bestial even for Whitney that ending was sick, and she is known for her live performances.

Listening to this is like listening to Aretha and Gladys duet. One of Cece's favs is Glady's and Whitney's favs is Aretha. I love it.
