CENSORS have banned KEIRA KNIGHTLEY's shocking new anti-domestic violence ad from British TV.

The advertising approval board ruled that the promo, made for charity Womens Aid, was too brutal to be shown.

The Atonement star plays as an actress attacked by a jealous boyfriend who believes she is having an affair with her co-star.

He then throws her to the floor and beats her.

The clip, called The Cut, has been viewed over a million times on YouTube but will only be shown on TV if the scenes of Keira being thrown to the floor and physically attacked are dropped.

Chris Hirst, managing director of Grey London Advertising Agency which created The Cut, said: "The reason we are still in conversation with Clearcast about it is because it is too violent.

Part of the campaign is to raise awareness about domestic violence, and spark debate, which the advert has done, even if it doesn't make it on television.

Keira, 25, previously said of the advert: Domestic violence kills two women every week but we rarely hear about it.

  • I don't know what dildos have to do with it but please calm down. Both women and men have been abused mentally and physically by each other but it shouldn't be that way. It is true however that women have been abused more often and for more years than men, that does not make it any less real to men who have been abused. I am unsure of why you are so angry, do you really condone violence to another human being?

I don't see why this video promoting awareness has got you so riled up.

  • god that ad is pretty brutal... but then mayb that's what it's gotta take nowadays to highlight this issue.

  • @mckinley1 Bleeding hearts? How about dignity and freedom from the fear of physical damage. What about not allowing some bully to harm someone. Violence is shit. Women get killed through domestic abuse.

  • @Trund27 takes courage to know that somebody is going to beat the hell out of you and you continue to stay. Or is it no self worth? so they can't make it in the world without someone else taking care of them? Either way, I don't support beating someone you live with, But I don't support spending many millions on safe-houses, commercials, and policing on a group of people that can help themselves. Bleeding hearts have lots of issues. But this problem is fixable. A waste of money

  • @jackbrazil14 Her fault yes. He wasn't home, she could have phoned family or police and moved out to a shelter. No he shouldn't beat her. But she stays, knowing he is abusive. If it was real, I don't blame me, or anybody of the 5.5 billion people that never knew or cared about Keira getting beaten. I blame Him for doing it, and her for staying for another round. I am not the dummy here for pointing it out, they script her as the dummy for staying.

  • @jackbrazil14 Beautifully said.

  • @mckinley1 Wow. So much for compassion. Not everyone is strong. It take incredible courage to walk out when you are alone. Self-righteousness is a callous luxury for those not in the situation

  • What a waste of money, and time. Life is hard, and if this is you. Then get out. like so many others say " That used to be me" If you were watching this while still being in an abusive relationship. I feel no Pity, just disgust. at the aggressor, and also the victim, allowing themselves to be a victim

  • @Id0ne,

If you don't know how to make your own sandwich, you should really go back to your mother's basement!

  • Absolutely brilliant add.

  • LOL
