This animation shows the evolution of the ozone hole above Antarctica for 2006, as measured daily by the SCIAMACHY satellite instrument. With a thinner ozone layer and a higher position of the sun in the sky more ultraviolet radiation will reach Earth's surface, as can be seen at the right hand side.
