First Annual West Texas Townes Van Zandt Wake, Jan. 1, 2012. Jon Hogan, Ann Armstrong, Steve Hughes, Emily Clepper, Kem Watts, Nick Young, Mo Pair, Rory Hancock, Herk Heston, Jim Keaveny, Maria Moss, Sean "Cornbread" Andrews, J.P. Schwartz, and Moses. Thank you Rachel Ferguson for shooting! Thank you all for being there. Beautiful night to honor Townes, and also Wrecks Bell of the Old Quater Acoustic Cafe in Galveston, who has held the mother ship of all Townes wake's every Jan. 1 since 1997, a year after Townes' death. Wrecks is a tradition-maker and conservator of Townes' legacy and every fan of singer-songwriters should visit the Old Quarter! Great to note in this video: Butch Hancock's son Rory is such a professional: after he plays his solo, he sees Nick Young playing his into a mic, since we were short a guitar cable. Rory mutes his guitar with the stage tuner, threads his way between all the folks on stage, plugs his cable into Nick's guitar, and then un-mutes at exactly the moment Nick needs for his solo to bloom.
