The Blackhawk TR-10 Wind Turbine (U.S. PAT. 7,677,862) running at the Center For Advanced Energy Studies (CAES) in Idaho Falls, ID. CAES is a collaboration of the Idaho National Laboratory, Idaho State University, and the University of Idaho. The unit was installed at CAES on September 26th, 2009. The Blackhawk wind turbine represents the first fundamental innovation in VAWT technology since Darrieus (1939). The VAWT/AR (Vertical Axis Wind Turbine with Articulating Rotor) patent application has no prior art in the U.S. Patent Office relating to the use of the rotor tilt to directly control the angle of attack (AOA) of the airfoils. The VAWT/AR represents a new subclass of giromills that has many advantages over traditional VAWT designs.
