Clips on an archaeological dig on the site of Henry VIII's former royal manor of Beaulieu (also referred to as Newhall) in Essex. I have posted the clips in connection to my blog entry on Mary Tudor's connection to Beaulieu which can be read here:

During this dig the team came across what they believed to be the royal nursery built for Princess Mary, Henry VIII's daughter by Katherine of Aragon. Beaulieu later became one of Mary's favourite residences. The manor was granted to her in Henry VIII's will.
@fatmaccam Lord Montagu, an old friend, once told me that the ancient French pronunciation of "Beaulieu"s indeed Byou-lee, which is the correct pronunciation of the region, estate and title today in England. Of course, in France, the pronunciation is entirely modern.

That's strange to me...as an American we get closer to the French when we say words borrowed from French! Like and an American would say "bow champ" (short A) for beauchamp...interesting. I was a French major at Uni so I guess the whole "beewley" thing just bothered me!

thats right - the anglicized pronounciation is bewley

if you mean "bewley" instead of "beaulieu", that´s probably the english pronunciation, not the narrator´s poor french. a bit like "beecham" for "beauchamp". but i don´t know the place, so anyone out there in the know is welcome to correct me on this.
