Today we visit the Maryland State Police Aviation Command Station in Baltimore, Maryland. The police provide emergency medical services to the residents of Maryland with the help of 12 Eurocopter AS365 Helicopters, which are strategically stationed in 7 locations across the state.
In situations where the timely relocation of an ailing person is of paramount importance, helicopters are often called to the scene. They allow patients and paramedics to bypass traffic and intersections; covering great amounts of distance in a short period of time. The helicopter's ability to hover and land in confined spaces makes it exclusively suited for this kind of work.
On this day, the officers and paramedics of "Trooper 1" respond to two calls; one in the afternoon and one at night. The daytime mission is a response to an accident at a construction scene and the nighttime mission is a response to a head-on traffic collision. Both calls came from rural areas of northern Maryland and the patients were flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in downtown Baltimore.
Ive been on twice...awesome experience..
