Rock In Prevention presents Rock Plus
Rock In Prevention (Rock) is a creative, upbeat and evidence-based
program that will help you meet American School Counselor (ASCA)
model goals. Rock curriculum, songs, and interactive activities are
fun and help teach personal and social skills, health and wellness
and help to improve academic achievement through parental
involvement.
Rock has been utilized to meet goals in several disciplines: health
and wellness, alcohol, tobacco and drug awareness, character
education, anger management, problem solving, violence
prevention, at-risk students and positive school climate efforts.
Rock PLUS and Rock LIVE are evidence-based. The Substance Abuse
and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and the Center For
Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) federally funded the multi-year
research project that was completed by Iowa State University, Institute For
Social & Behavioral Research.
Rock PLUS is a creative 12-week elementary counselor curriculum. Rock
PLUS is taught in three grade levels: Level I: Grades 3/4, Level II: Grades
4/5, Level III: Grades 5/6.
Rock PLUS is very creative; each lesson is based on a song
used as a teaching tool. Counselors and teachers in the Rock
PLUS curriculum pilot enjoyed the ease of use and the quality
of the lesson plans. The Rock PLUS curriculum includes
Student Workbook Kits and Instructor Manual Kits,
which contains the lesson objective, rationale, materials,
discussion questions, song lyrics, an in-class activity, and a
school-home link.
Rock PLUS is designed to increase personal and social skills,
academic achievement, parental involvement, career
development, self awareness, health and wellness, alcohol,
tobacco and drug awareness, character education, media literacy, anger
management, problem solving, violence prevention and positive school
climate.
The school-home link integrates the weekly lesson into the home. The
parent and child complete the school-home link together. Parents then sign
the completed school-home link and the student returns it to school. This
can help provide data regarding parental involvement in the child's
education. Parental involvement helps improve academic achievement.
The school-home link also gives families the tools to begin meaningful
conversations about important issues.
