Actually, the trooper in the beginning has a custom painted NERF vulcan and also owns an m249 SAW (and he used to own an Innokatsu M60).
In the game, the safe zone (no face protection needed) only allows NERF "stunners". Out in the field (face protection required) is where the airsoft guns are used.

The entire event is improv-acting / role playing. There are no scripts, you just play a character and interact as you think your character would.
For example, it would be like playing a "role" in a theatrical play... but instead of having a script of what to do, you just have an idea of how your "role" would think and act. Then scenarios are presented to you and you play it out like how your "role" would... it is pretend, basically, and hella fun.
