Psychic Maps are a Dunedin band formed late last year by Simon MacLaren (Love's Ugly Children, Subliminals, Sleepers Union) with Geordie Frame on guitar/ vocals/ harmonica/ maraccas, Jeff Harford (Bored Games, The Rip, My Deviant Daughter) on drums and, originally, Chris Heazelwood (King Loser) on bass. Chris left mid 2011 and was replaced by Lucy Hunter (also in excellent Dunedin band Opposite Sex). This song - Hintergeist - is from the first show by the new line-up - an album release show for their cassette-only debut "Hello, I'm Charlie Sheen" which is is available from them via their Facebook page I suppose (as it's not in the shops and they don't have a website) : http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Psychic-Maps/157464787622984
You can also get one of the 84 copies from the Melbourne-based cassette label Full On Idle here: http://fullyidle.tumblr.com/
A great band to see live if you ever get the chance - a real mix-up of propulsive dubby krautrockish rock like this and and melodic punky noise and a whole lot of weirdness in between. No two performances are the same but always one of the most electrifying bands to experience live.
