@dferrand well geothermal heat pumps couldn't work were i am from, because be rock is never more than 20 feet away, but my house uses a regular air heat pump and that is actually alot more efficient that a regular heater. also, since i live by the sea i have seen many houses which have underwater heat pumps. tax deductable or not, these things will save you money.

Say this was implemented across the globe.Could we somehow significantly reduce the heat inside of the earth to the point where it would have a catastrophic effect?

this This should not be confused with a Geothermal Heat Pump. Which only needs its exchange pipes a few feet below the ground. This type of hi tech science is confusing consumers and politicians alike. Geothermal Heat Pumps could heat and cool most houses in this country.

There wouldn't be any need to drill another pipe or indeed have another generator; you would just use the existing generator to power a pump, with the excess energy going into electricity production.

You wouldn't get close to perpetual motion though, there will losses like any other system and it really depends on the efficiency of the various components in the system.

JASONMMEZA10 , my father just had geothermal installed on a very large house. He was advised that it is 100% deductible from his Federal taxes, AND the utility bills most likely will be 50% to 70% LESS than before! It's a win win for those that have the money to invest in it, it will pay for itself a lot within the first year. So the Government is backing this via tax deductions, as all of the R&D has been done and now it's just a matter of helping people to afford the conversion.

what if their is more than one exit pipe drilled down for the hot water to come out of, turning a turbine and producing presure for more cold water to be pumped down? couldn't we get close to something like perpetual motion? or would maintenance be way to expensive? lol
