1988 American Playhouse production of an early Philip Kan Gotanda play, the Wash. Starring Mako (Samurai Jack, Pearl Harbor) and Nobu McCarthy (Farewell to Manzanar, Karate Kid II). Nobu and Masi Matsumoto split up 40 years after the Japanese-American Internment camps, but Masi still comes over to do Nobu's laundry. Masi wants to move on with her life, but Nobu cant face the inevitable change that represents. He has an old conflict he wants to settle too.
With Sab Shimono (Come See the Paradise, The Shadow) as Masi's clueless but kind new boyfriend, and Patty Yasutake (Star Trek Next Generation), the daughter who, if not careful, may repeat her mothers mistakes. Directed by Michael Toshiyuki Uno. It's pretty stagey, but it is what it is -- a filmed play.
22 min. out of a 94 min. film. Out-of-print. Cmon, PBS, re-release all these great old shows in the American Playhouse series! Our ancient VHS tapes are deteriorating!
UNCLE! (Referring to Sab Shimono being in Jackie Chan Adventures)
