Our latest offering for Guinness is another collaboration between Rory Kelleher and Glassworks. Due to the sheer scale of the required environment it was decided early on in the production that the underground rugby training facility should be created entirely in 3D. The Glassworks 3D department lead by the veteran head of 3D Alastair Hearsum built the locations and the training machines, which were inspired by drawings from the amazing Wayne Barlowe. All the live action players were shot in neutral grey amongst a forest of tracking markers. Additional 3D rugby players were added into the mid and backgrounds of the wider shots, as well as the tackling and scrummage machines. The 2D team lead by Duncan Horn and Duncan Malcolm seamlessly blended the live action and 3D to complete this beautifully futuristic spot.
