This is the first thing you want to train your new puppy or rescue dog before using food or toys to train with. Basically you are teaching the dog a default leave it from the treats and your treat bag when working with food.

  • I'm so glad I found your videos! :D I was amazed how quickly this works.

  • @Pandaraze Yes! With the right reinforcement and setting the dog up to succeed!

  • whatcompany of treats you ar eusing ?

  • @iMusicTranceHipHop I like to keep it healthy and use real meat, but I will use kibble, and cheese, and any sort of brand of dog treats that are soft and easy to cut up and swallow. But I try to stick with the fresh stuff.

  • I have a 2 year old chihuahua and she hates the clicker..She understands it, it seems once we do it for a while, but as soon as I pull out the clicker and click it, she hates the sounds and gets scared. After a few minutes of doing it she gets over it though and gets the connection..Do I need a clicker that isnt so loud?

  • @OfARepublic Yeah, I muffle mine with layers of duct tape on the dimple or a piece of poster take on the dimple- if you were to click it near your head you would see how fricken loud they are- its silly they still make clickers that loud- I think so many dogs get so scared of them the first time they hear them- really silly...

  • if your dog eats grass and poop, that's a strong indication he isn't getting what he needs from his dogfood. Know that even popular, expensive and 'veterinary recommended' food might actually be of a horrible quality, containing little but waste products from corn production and the like - research and find a better brand of dogfood in your area. Supplement with extra root vegetables, peas and the like if your dog still eats grass. Also get a vet check in case he has a medical problem.

  • cool! thanks.

  • @111hachi I don't know what Kikopup would personally advise, but I have a book recommendation for you. Check out "Feisty Fido" by Patricia McConnell and Karen London. It's a very short and inexpensive read about handling leash reactivity. Your dog may not learn to LOVE other dogs, but if it can learn to tolerate them then great. Search for a video called "Study in Leash Reactivity -- Video 1 Brandi" (it won't let me link it). It demonstrates an owner working with her reactive dog.

  • You're amazing! Thank you!!! :)

  • hi, i think your video is great, i have a 1 year old husky who isnt keen on other dogs ,do you have any videos or advice on how to deal with this, thanks.

  • how smart is the rescued dog? or is just me ? XD great video, as always!

  • Simple, elegant, and it seems like it should be obvious; always train for the behavior you want. But mugging was a huge stumbling block for me, oh, around 5 years ago, when I got a few hours to work with horses (I hadn't before). Perhaps I would have thought more clearly with a smaller animal, but I think any beginner will be grateful for this tip. The low value treat tip is a stroke of insight as well, thank you.

  • Bogart is SO FREAKING CUTE !

  • what happens if my dog first understands it but then out next training session she forgets

  • I have watched this video more than 8 times just to see Bogart! He's such a cutie!

  • what treats do you give?
