Lama Zopa Rinpoche was recently in Dehradun in the Himalayas, taking initiations from His Holiness Sakya Trizin. The name of these sets of initiations is Wangya Norbu Tangwa (Garlands of Jewels of Hundreds of Initiations). The initiations will be given over a period of about 5 weeks this year, and then will continue again next year and the year after and so on there are many initiations!
The lineage of these initiations had completely died out in the Gelug tradition, so Rinpoche has been working on having these initiations happen since 1990 and requested
and arranged for these transmissions to happen in order to bring these initiations back into the Gelug tradition, thus helping to preserve the Mahayana tradition in general.
There are more than 700 lamas (including about 100 high Gelug lamas), monks and nuns attending and Rinpoche and a number of very kind benefactors are the main sponsors. We are offering dinner for all those attending, as well as offering accommodation, food and transport for the main Gelug lamas.
