I have heard that he lists his height as 6'11" because he is superstitious.

Also, they say he lists it at that so that 6'11 players think that they have an even matchuup or that 7'0 players think that they have a height advantage on him, when in reality they don't

Some tall guys like Shaq choose their barefoot height as their listed height but that's probbaly just because a lot of tall guys are very particular about their height like Wilt Chamberlain claimed his measurement to the extra fraction....7-1 1/16.

However the fact KG insists on being listed nearly an inch below his barefoot height makes no sense.

If he was listed 7-0 or 7-1 people wouldn't forget about his perimeter skills, they'd find his versatility even more impressive.

is he ashamed of his height or something?

Yeah he hates the 7 foot label. He is about 6-11 3/4 barefoot and 7-1 in shoes yet he has the NBA list him at 6-11.

I've heard various reasons for this.

1.Kevin Garnett thinks that if he's listed 7 feet then people will forget about his perimeter skills.
2.He thinks he might have to play center if he's listed 7 foot.
3.He may just think 7 foot sounds like a freakish height. Bill Walton was widely thought to be 7 feet but requested to be listed 6-11 for that reason.

Bad logic from KG

I think it is #3 that you said. because for #1 they have been playing against him for years, they know what he can and can't do. And for #2, he plays center all the time, plus there are plenty of centers under 7'.

I'm 6'7 (barefoot) but usually tell people i am 6'5 just because i hate getting the extra attention drawn to myself...and he has half a foot on me so he might be somewhat self conscious over it.
