Great memories. I recorded the entire broadcast and still have it saved on CD (excellent quality). It was broadcast live on Radio 1 on Christmas Eve simultaneously with BBC 2 TV broadcast.
That's a lovely story. Every performance full of idiosyncrasies. Dury's vexation at the whining microphone in 'I made Mary Cry'* is similarly heart warming.
Heh, remember this gig from the tv, glad you've put it here, cos it brings back a memory! At the end of Wilko's solo he hits a big blocky D flat chord when everyone else does a regular D (for non-muso's he's therefore one note lower than the rest of the band) hence his "huh?" look at the guitar neck. Saw him and Norman playing Colne blues festival this year, still a great team!
