Reeds beach in Cape May County NJ is where the birds returning from South America feast on the mating Horse shoe crabs in late Spring. the beach is closed also for nesting birds. This was taken from the deck of a beach front cottage.

  • Yes I live on an island, Tasmania. I know the marine creatures really well. No horse shoe crabs in Australia, I would have traveled to see them if so. are they all over American beaches or just where you are?

  • Were they "no se me" flies (smaller than gnats) or green heads?

  • They usually hang out in seaside bays, early Spring. Australia has them also I beleive.....are you near any sea water bays bill?

  • I checked out Reeds beach last summer. The flies were awful! I wanted to walk the beach over to Cooks Beach, but couldn't take it!! At Cooks, there was one fisherman out, and he was totally covered!

  • That would be an awesome site! I've always loved those guys but have never seen one live!
