Dev Anand's Navketan has profusely taken up subjects from literature, as this one in 'Kala Bazar'. A laudable slice from the life of a poor struggler, who opts for dubious means of livelihood, but is reformed by the love of a woman. Excellently scripted, written, acted in and directed by Vijay Anand, as only his second venture after 'Nau Do Gyareh', it has excellent performances from the lead players, Dev Anand and Waheeda Rehman, as well as from Chetan Anand and Kishore Sahu in this exceptionally brilliant court scene. The supporting cast of Leela Chitnis, Nanda, Krishan Dhawan, Jagdish Raj, Rashid Khan etc. lend good support. The film boasts of high quality technical values, as also memorable music score from Dada Sachin Deb Burman, with Shailendra's Lyrics. On the whole, a near classic !
