A little tutorial uploaded by request. It's NOT an easy process though..

Sorry if it moves along a little fast, was my first time using Annotations. Just pause it if you miss something.

I'm sure there are better ways to go about making this effect, but this is how I did it. Similar looking invisibility can be done in Adobe After Effects by displacing the background, but I was never able to get it to make the cool rippled distortion you'd see in the Predator movies.

Using Adobe Premiere, a program I'm a little more comfortable with, I tried creating the effect in a similar way to the artists at R/Greenberg who made the originals, duplicating the same piece of film making it smaller and smaller using a red-suited actor as a basis.

To make it work really really well, like if there's a Predator running through somewhere, you'd have to keyframe the motion of each inline layer and make sure they stay together. A pain in the ass, but it's better than doing the effect frame by frame in Photoshop.

  • @BIGBeats1234 ..yeahhhh... kinda couldn't be arsed to do the decloaking.

I'll probablys do another video of the predator camouflage sometime, make it more authentic and hopefully find an easier way to do it.

  • where did u get the predator 2 footage? If its on the net send me a link plz

  • @looperterd ...it's on the Predator 2 Special Edition DVD.

  • @MrSnaztastic Is there any way u could somehow in someplace in sometime in some other dimension you could "copy it". you must have done it to get it onto ur pc

  • @looperterd ...well, duh. Just get a DVD ripper/converter. There wasn't much on the making of apart from what's shown here and if you really want the footage just download this clip and cut the bits you want out of it.

  • aw cool :)

  • very cool

  • cool, but it looks like the background in the original movies is more distorted than that. It almost has a kaleidoscope effect.

  • Not necessarily.

Any race intelligent enough to develop technology enabling traveling interstellar distances and hunt on a variety of planets, in a variety of environments (including wet ones), would probably be able to water proof their equipment. And what about simple rain?

Anything showing water disrupting their cloaking device could be explained by damaged equipment.
