Bionic Dance recently made a video called
I've Pledged No Allegence.
I was surprised that she discribed atheists as not being a group,
and yet argued that theists are part of a group, and therefore theists can be held responsable for the actions of members of their religion.
The arguement seems like a non-sequator to me, as I don't see a connection between group identity and responsibility.

  • My opinion is that atheism cannot be blamed for actions of individual atheists because atheism does not provide a foundation for any action. On the other hand christianity can be blamed for some actions of some christians, when those actions are caused by christian scripture, tradition etc. This does not, however, mean that other individual christians can be blamed. (Same goes for islam and muslims or whichever other belief system or even ideology you would care to mention.)

  • @tuxino I think its appropriate to cite actions by theists as arguments against some of their ethics, but not as a grounds for personal responsibility.

I think your point makes some sense, but I think you go to far to generalise that a person without direct involvement in an activity is possibly responsible.

  • @republicofsandles You might want to read my comment again. I think you misunderstood something.

  • @tuxino I re-read my comment and I don't see how I misunderstood you.

Please explain where you think I misunderstood.

  • @republicofsandles You apparently read that I would hold someone responsible for someone else's actions, but that was not part of what I actually wrote.

  • @tuxino I see that I've made a mistake.

You did not mean individual Christians were responsible.

  • @tuxino it doesent matter what religon you are because they all drink and smoke and want dollars and white women for sex so whats the difference between them,

  • @indignant99 My points did not dispute this. The concept is simple

Agnostic theists (I don't know, but I believe) <- combination in question

Gnostic theists (I know and believe)

Agnostic atheists (I don't know, but disbelieve)

Gnostic atheists (I know and disbelieve) <- me

My question was specific to the criteria for an agnostic being a theist. I would have thought your response would have been "faith."

  • Stalin was such a closet Orthodox Christian it is a pretty moot point.

  • Militant atheism is a term devised by religious people themselves. Just expressing that you don't believe in god, rather than shut your mouth and abet the rigid social structure of theism is considered militant. In some cases, just breathing air while not believing in god is considered militant atheism.

  • @matthewtaylorbrown Agnostic means "don't know." So, of course, you can have unknowing Believers as well as unknowing Nonbelievers. Don't you understand the difference between KNOW and BELIEVE?

  • Atheists aren't "somewhat" superior. They're VASTLY superior.

  • @indignant99 responsible, argument, non sequitur, category. Holy shit!

  • For fuck's sake, LEARN TO SPELL. allegiance, describe, sandals.
