He mentions Lincoln briefly, and seemed to respect him, but I would not say Lincoln was his main inspiration in the slightest. Especially Lincoln was far from believing in the power of peaceful protest. Gandhi himself said that he tried to use the teachings of shrimat bhagvat gita (hindu), Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Leo Tolstoy (the russian author) and Romain Rolland (french writer). He rarely mentions Lincoln when talking about inspiration or influence on his philosophies.

Actually, if you study that work, Gandhi was referring to the western world seeing Indians as about the same worth as Africans and therefore are treated similarly by western societies. He wasn't bad mouthing Africans, he was staying that whites treat Indians at the level they treated Africans, which was not well, as we all know.
