Most young pitchers have a tendency to land open, or to the outside of a line drawn toward home plate, with their lead foot. Opening or turning your hips and lower body before landing causes loss of power, control and mechanical problems that can lead to injury. This drill using only a line can be done indoors or out and is a great way to build muscle memory for a proper landing position in line with the target.

  • Are you saying the the hips should be perpendicular to the front of the plate at foot plant? Does the player step DIRECTLY to HP with the stride foot?
