* Sri Lanka President calls Muslims to help forge a new nation of unity

Sept 21, Colombo: Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa today called all the Muslims in the country to help forge a new nation with unity, tolenrance, and harmony.

In his Eid-ul- Fitr message to the Muslim community, the President said during their long history in Sri Lanka the Muslim community has lived in harmony with the Sinhalese, Tamils, Buddhists, Hindus, Christians and all other communities and contributed much to its progress.

President Rajapaksa said when the Muslins celebrated the end of Ramadan last year the country's Eastern region was liberated from the LTTE terror. This year there is cause for greater satisfaction as the entire country has been freed from the terror.

He said today, the Muslims expelled by the LTTE from their homes in the Northern parts of the country are able to return to live and carry out their traditions and religious activities in freedom.

President Rajapaksa said the country is looking forward to the lasting partnership of the Muslims of Sri Lanka to forge a new Sri Lankan nation of unity, tolerance and harmony and making its own contribution to the further progress of peace in the country.

i work with some sri lankan buddhists here in canada. they really push vegan diet and buddhism on people in very aggressive manner. they persecute nonbuddhists. i don' think it can be easy being muslim in sri lanka.

@farhandafunk maybe i'm wrong about sri lanka, but i'm not wrong about my experiences with people from sri lanka here, or other buddhists. they have been extremely aggressive towards people who are not buddhist or vegetarian.
